How partners can collaborate to work towards a more sustainable future

The annual Earth Day took place in April, which aims to highlight how climate change is affecting the world, and the need to live more sustainably to mitigate the effects of it. Everyone can help towards this goal – including businesses in the channel.

Earth Day has become an important annual event around the world to highlight the impact of climate change. This is something that will impact everyone in the future – if it isn’t already – and it is the responsibility of everyone to help fight against it, and businesses can play an important role.

Here, Nancy Powell, Sustainability lead for UK&I at HP Inc, provides some advice for how partners can be more sustainable.

  1. Have a strategy conversation with your larger channel partners

All companies are working on their environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals, but with better communication, we can be far more effective, streamlined and efficient at achieving them. Enhanced communication and collaboration enable businesses and their partners to leverage each other’s strengths and resources more effectively in pursuit of ESG goals.

By working together, companies can identify synergies, share best practices and amplify the impact of their sustainability initiatives. This not only benefits the environment but also strengthens relationships and drives innovation within the business ecosystem. A simple conversation with a channel partner can highlight shared goals and inspire collaboration and new sustainable ways of working.

  1. Making knowledge and expertise available to smaller (and larger) partners

Reaching Net Zero is a combined global effort and it’s important for businesses to share their knowledge and expertise with partners to support the industry in its move towards a more sustainable future. Knowledge and resource sharing is particularly important for smaller channel partners who are working toward sustainability goals but might not have a formalised corporate strategy or internal infrastructure and training to reach their goals.

For instance, HP has a dedicated sustainability compliance team available to all channel partners to provide guidance and resources. Additionally, initiatives like Amplifying Impact offer extensive advice, training, and tools for measuring sustainability criteria.

  1. Encouraging sustainable business initiatives

In today’s rapidly evolving business landscape, sustainability has become a cornerstone for business success, with a staggering 87% of industry leaders recognising its pivotal role. Encouraging shared sustainable business initiatives within our industry is crucial for fostering environmental responsibility across the board. When companies collaborate to prioritise sustainability, they leverage collective expertise and resources to accelerate progress towards common environmental goals.

Businesses can adopt initiatives like offering second-life devices and exploring alternative commercial structures, such as leasing options, to extend the lifespan of tech products, reducing the need for new manufacturing and minimising electronic waste. At HP we’re offering a Device Life Extension Service to refresh aging devices and enhance their performance and longevity so customers can maximise their IT investments.

Through collaboration with our partners and customers, we can develop tailored, sustainable solutions that not only lower carbon footprints but also promote a circular economy model. This approach optimises resource utilisation and sets a precedent for industry-wide environmental stewardship, shaping a more sustainable future for all stakeholders.
