HP has launched the DesignJet T870 printer, which is aimed at sectors such as architecture, engineering and construction and can give them the production qualities they need, while being sustainable and secure too.
At the beginning of October, HP announced the launch of an array of new products and services covering IT and print designed to help people work without limits with greater ease and purpose.
Among those products launched was the HP DesignJet T870 24-inch printer, which is aimed at the architecture, engineering and construction sectors, as well as education and retail, where businesses often seek a single printer that can cater for all their print requirements.
In a blog on the HP website, Daniel Martinez, SVP and division president, HP Large Format Printing, noted that the DesignJet T870 is up to 30% lighter, quieter, and more energy efficient than previous models.
Ease of use has been prioritised as prints can be made from A4/A to A1/D, without manual media switching.
Speed is also a consideration for teams that often find themselves on tight deadlines, and to that end the DesignJet T870 can produce an A1/D print in as little as 21 seconds.
The printer also features HP Flex Tech Inks to deliver precise CAD drawings, vibrant visuals and impactful signage.
Also, when users use HP Click Solutions, they can preview jobs in real time, which means they have a greater chance of catching errors before they happen – which can save hours on jobs when often there is a tight timescale. There is also the ability to send projects from almost any device, which is helpful for those on the move, as is increasingly the case.
Connecting workflows
Allied to the DesignJet T870, Daniel noted that many professionals, the hardest part of any project is bridging the gap between paper and digital. But HP Build Workspace has been designed for this.
First announced in 2024 and expanded with AI vectorisation earlier this year, HP Build Workspace now includes mobile-enabled scanning and AI-powered vectorisation directly from HP DesignJet MFPs. This makes it easier to digitise field sketches, convert legacy drawings into CAD-ready files, and share them instantly with collaborators.
By reducing manual drafting time by up to 80%, AI vectorisation frees up valuable hours for higher-value design work – something businesses want in a highly competitive marketplace where time is often of the essence.
In addition, with teams increasingly working across numerous workspaces, collaboration is essential. HP Build Workspace has integrated collaboration tools like layer separation, markup, and centralised file sharing, which ensures teams can work seamlessly across offices, studios and worksites.
Sustainability and securityÂ
One of the biggest issues for businesses in these sectors is sustainability. Customers demand products that align with their ESG goals now and into the future, and the DesignJet T870 does just that. It contains at least 45% recycled plastic and 10% recycled metal, ships in 100% polystyrene-free packaging, and offers features that can reduce energy use by up to 60% and cut ink consumption by as much as 95% during printhead maintenance.
Security is another crucial issue – with increasing awareness that printers are also targets for cybercriminals. HP has that covered too, as HP Wolf Security is built in, which means that sensitive data stays protected. These solutions are designed to give teams peace of mind while helping them deliver sharper results, faster.
The HP DesignJet T870 printer is available globally now.
