Toshiba’s new 40V eFuse ICs suitable for MFPs start shipping

Toshiba has added the 40V “TCKE6 series” products to its range of electronic fuses (eFuse ICs) that support multiple functions required for power line circuit protection. The five new products joining the lineup have SKU numbers TCKE601RA, TCKE601RL, TCKE602RM, TCKE603RA and TCKE603RL.

The new TCKE6 series products offer short-circuit protection similar to that of standard physical fuses while also incorporating current limiting and overvoltage protection functions, capabilities that physical fuses such as glass tube fuses and chip current fuses cannot provide, and that protect circuits from overcurrent and overvoltage.

These features in the new 40V series help to prevent excessive current or voltage from being applied to subsequent ICs when overcurrent or overvoltage occurs at a point in a circuit. The eFuse ICs also have a built-in thermal protection function that immediately shuts them down when abnormal heat is generated or an unexpected short-circuit occurs, thereby protecting the subsequent circuit. An additional advantage of eFuse ICs is simplified circuit design. By integrating multiple protection functions into a single device, they reduce the need for discrete components, enabling more compact and efficient designs with fewer parts and a smaller footprint.

The TCKE6 series products feature a 40V rating and support a wide input voltage range from 4.4V to 30V, making them suitable for power management applications, such as 5V, 9V, 12V, and 24V systems. A low on-resistance of 52mΩ (typ.) reduces power dissipation during operation and contributes to improved efficiency. The devices are housed in a small TSOP6F package (2.9mm×2.8mm (typ.)), which helps to reduce board size. These eFuse ICs are suitable for a wide range of applications, including industrial and consumer equipment, and in particular multi-functional printers.

The TCKE6 series includes products equipped with a FLAG function that detects and reports abnormal conditions, and products featuring an EN (enable) function that controls the operation of the eFuse IC. Each function type is available in two recovery operation types: auto-retry, in which the eFuse IC itself automatically recovers; and latched, which recovers via an external signal. Additionally, one of the products does not include FLAG or EN functions, but allows mode switching between auto-retry and latched types via external signals. This flexibility enables users to choose the most suitable product based on their system requirements and equipment size.
